1978 Bimota KB1a By 2shores

2shores are pleased to offer on behalf of one of their clients this extremely rare and highly collectible superbike. Bimota is a small Italian manufacturer of custom and production motorcycles. It was founded in 1973 in Rimini, Italy by Valerio Bianchi, Giuseppe Morri, and Massimo Tamburini.

The company name is a portmanteau derived from the first two letters of each of the three founders’ surnames, Bianchi Morri Tamburini.
Bimota became a household name in High Performance European motorcycle circuits during the 1970’s and 80’s.

The bike is a 1978 Bimota KB1a (Kawasaki K1000 engine) in highly original condition. These bikes are extremely rare with only 829 ever produced. Most of the production were kits, that owners would have to put together on their own. This particular bike is one of only sixteen(!) examples that were actually produced by the Bimota factory in Rimini, Italy with all the possible performance enhancements, including headlight cover option.

The bike was purchased by the current owner in 2013 in Los Angeles and prior was owned by a collector in New York. This rare high performance motorcycle is in excellent collector condition and was shown at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering twice, once at Concourso Italiano and once at the Danville d’Elegance.

With only 3845 original miles, the bike will run, but will need some routine maintenance to be roadworthy. It is still on original Pirelli tires, so for any serious riding those need to be updated.
Please note, this model is a factory built version and is a KB1a configuration,
which included special Marzocchi forks & DeCarbon rear shock both built to the factories spec, plus larger Brembo discs & Goldline calipers.

A very rare piece for any serious motorcycle collection.
