Just in time for the 50th anniversary of two major international victories, FRANZIS has further developed its faithful working model of the BMW R 90 S boxer engine at an impressive 1:2 scale. In 1976, the BMW R 90 S brought the prestigious Daytona 200 victory home to Munich. That same year, Helmut Dähne also rode the brand’s then flagship model to victory in the production motorcycle class up to 1,000 cc on the Isle of Man. BMW recently celebrated this success and the 115th running of the Tourist Trophy with a special model, the M 1000 RR “Limited Edition Isle of Man TT”.
A highlight of the premium FRANZIS engine kit range, this working model evokes the spirit of those two major endurance racing victories and is available now. Its attention to detail will delight more than just BMW fans.
200 Parts To The Finish Line
All parts can be easily snapped or screwed together – no glue required. After around three hours of assembly, the finished model adds to the excitement with the sound of a boxer engine at the touch of a button. All 200 parts of the BMW R 90 S boxer engine kit, along with its realistically shifting five-speed gearbox, move just as they do on the original motorcycle, bringing the technology to life and making it easy to understand.
The BMW R 90 S was launched in 1973 as one of the fastest production motorcycles of its time. Its 67 hp propelled the twin-cylinder boxer to a top speed of 200 kilometres per hour. This enabled the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer to hold its own against growing competition from powerful Japanese machines. The BMW’s distinctive styling was the work of German designer Hans A. Muth. It was first unveiled in 1973 in Silver Smoke. In 1975, the BMW R 90 S also became available in the striking Daytona Orange colour scheme. Its exclusivity made the motorcycle highly popular with celebrities and racing drivers alike. Formula One and endurance racing legend Jochen Mass, for example, was a great admirer of the R 90 S in Silver Smoke during the 1970s. Today, one of the most prominent enthusiasts of the former flagship model is television chef and collector of rare treasures Horst Lichter. He favours the distinctive graduated paint finish in Daytona Orange. This motorcycle connoisseur recently explained his appreciation for BMW and the FRANZIS kit in an interview with a motorcycle magazine.
The motorcycle engine model kit from FRANZIS comes with a high-quality handbook in German and English. It takes classic motorcycle enthusiasts into the world of BMW motorcycles, offering an insight into more than 100 years of success at Bayerische Motoren Werke. It features striking photographs and graphics with detailed descriptions and supporting information.
The final section of the handbook provides hobby engineers with comprehensive assembly instructions. Across 83 individual steps, it explains in detail how to assemble the 200 components into a high-quality, transparent working model.
The BMW R 90 S boxer engine model kit is available from FRANZIS and selected mail-order retailers at a recommended retail price of €219.
